Our electronic devices are amazing. But therein lies the problem – they are too amazing. We can’t remove our eyes from our screens. Consequently, instead of doing, we’re viewing, being reactive rather than proactive and this is coming at the unpardonable expense of family, jobs, personal goals, and health. Jeff, through his own screen-distraction struggle story, delivers an impactful and highly entertaining presentation that helps us understand what we’re up against in getting individuals, especially kids, outdoors, off their screens, pursuing experiences rather than likes.

Keynote Speaker Topics
Topic 1). Unplug to Recharge: The Benefits Behind Digital Balance
From the moment we wake to the moment we go to sleep we are bombarded by screens. Some intentional – smartphones, iPads, home computers – others unintentional – waiting rooms, gas pumps, elevators. There’s no escape, keeping us constantly connected, allowing for little or no time to mentally exhale and process the constant stream of digital goads (click this, read this, watch this, play this, like this, share this…) that blitz our brains. And research shows that unremitting screen time contributes to sleep disorders, anxiety, depression and, ultimately, burnout.
All the more reason for individuals to become more digitally aware so as to foster better screen-time decisions so that ultimately they are controlling their devices rather than their devices controlling them. Jeff’s presentation, through his own unlikely screen-struggle story (unlikely due to a very outdoor-orientated lifestyle) helps achieve this by raising awareness to what we’re up against in today’s screen-dominated world.
Attendees will:
1) Gain awareness to how our ever-increasing screen time is affecting us mentally and physically.
2) Recognize that in today’s distraction-based economy focus is today’s new superpower.
4) Attain understanding to the importance of finding time to unplug.
5) Learn some simple tips on how to stem screen-checking compulsions.
This speech incorporates inspiration, motivation, time management, digital distraction, digital detox, focus, humor, being present, outdoor benefits and improved productivity.
Topic 2) Experience Famine: Too Much Viewing Not Enough Doing
Experiences are what bond us and what color our lives with authenticity. This bears especially true with outdoor experiences. But experiences, in today’s screen-obsessed world, are being replaced by digital diversions that promote sedentary lifestyles. Jeff, through his own screen-distraction story, delivers an impactful and highly entertaining presentation that helps us understand what we’re up against in getting individuals outdoors, off their screens, pursuing experiences rather than likes and shares.
Participants will be able to:
1. Differentiate the power of a first-hand experience versus “experiencing” it on a screen.
2. List research-based facts on how screen time is affecting us, especially our kids, mentally and physically.
3. Exit the session with tips on how to combat screen-checking compulsions.
This speech incorporates inspiration, motivation, time management, digital distraction, focus, humor, being present, outdoor health benefits and improved productivity.
Topic 3) Employee Burnout
A constant complaint with employees today is that they can’t work at work due to constant digital distractions. This in turn leads to frustration and, ultimately, burnout. Jeff’s presentation addresses initiatives offices can take in improving workplace digital practices.
Participants will be able to:
1.Grasp the consequences of staff burnout. Not only does it stem productivity, but causes problems in retaining employees.
2. Site examples of digital workplace practices and laws implemented by companies and countries in mitigating employee burnout.
3. Leave with tips on promoting digital wellbeing in the workplace.
This speech incorporates inspiration, motivation, time management, digital distraction, digital detox, focus, humor, being present, health benefits and improved productivity.
Topic 4) Embracing Inconvenience
Jeff’s presentation teaches audiences to embrace inconvenience. Too often, especially in today’s world of screen-induced conveniences, we’re finding it more difficult to escape our comfort zones, relying on the usual dodges – too cold, too hot, too early, too late, no WiFi. Jeff, through a life devoted to outdoor adventure, reminds audiences that on the backside of an inconvenience lies a memory, an experience, a possible once-in-a-lifetime moment that enriches our days and colors our lives.
Participants will be able to:
1) Grasp how cell phones are appropriately named by the way in which they easily keep us locked in our comfort zones.
2) Understand, through studies and research, the benefits of outdoor recreation.
3) Exit the session with insight on how to better utilize our 5-9 hours, our non-working time, pushing our comfort zone boundaries.
This speech incorporates inspiration, motivation, digital distraction, focus, being present, humor, and outdoor health benefits.
